Addressing the mental health crisis in NH

Cabinet Press – May 20, 2025

CONCORD – State Reps. Julie Miles (R-Merrimack) and Bill Boyd (R-Merrimack) released the following statement after Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed HB597, establishing a designated behavioral health access point within the enhanced 911 system into law on Friday, May 16th. “HB597 allows the New Hampshire Enhanced 9-1-1 System to transfer 9-1-1 calls from people experiencing non-emergent behavioral health crises and mental health needs to the appropriate service providers. This bill also exempts mental health information from the Right-to-Know law,” Representative Miles said. “HB597 will get people experiencing a mental health crisis who dial 9-1-1 the proper help they need from appropriate providers,” she continued.

Representative Boyd concurred saying “HB597 is a big step for the mental health crisis in our state. HB597 allows people experiencing a mental health crisis to get the help they need, and fast. By embedding this into our 9-1-1 system we are making sure that addressing the mental health crisis remains a priority for the Granite State.”
